About Me
Sonia - and anyone else involved - thank you so much for doing this!
What a wonderful way to hear about lost friends and classmates!
Since high school... hmmm.
I did end up going to Brown University and majored in Comparative Development
Studies (and my hair never changed colors - it is still auburn). After
taking a semester off from school to study in Guatemala, I began getting
really involved in health and social justice work, which has become
a driving passion in life.
Over the past seven years, I've worked at a Latino/immigrant service
agency, a community hospital doing HIV prevention research with injection
drug users and prison inmates, at an amazing health and human rights
research and
advocacy organization (www.phrusa.org), and at a media advocacy organization
(www.bmsg.org).
I'm currently getting my masters in public health at UC Berkeley and
just got back from a summer in Kampala, Uganda working at a small indigenous
NGO on health and human rights advocacy with health professionals. To
learn more about some of the horrific human rights violations happening
in northern
Uganda, please visit here.
I have no idea where I will be one year from now (hopefully Uganda)
- but I feel very fortunate to have really great friends, and amazing
experiences/ opportunities fall into my lap over the past ten years.
I hope to see you at reunion!
